The same aisle where I found the slide hammer IIRC. They have about an 8' section that has a rear stand, the spools, stand adapters, wheel chocks. That aisle was right in the middle of the store. Click the link to see them: www.harborfreight.com/automotive-motorcy...ifts-stands.html?p=2

Back in the day (and not on fuel tanks), we would just punch holes in a panel, screw in the slide hammer and pull out the dent. Then weld up the holes with a mig and apply body filler. The boss didn't believe in a tool that used proprietary consumables like studs. A stud gun would be cool, and if you have alot of dents to pull out in your Mustang, it would be cleaner and faster. But for one dent in your tank, I stand by my initial recommendation........

Buy a carbon tank

do you know a suplier of cf tanks? :woohoo:

No, as a matter of fact I do not :pinch:

The light looks good Josh, and she starts right up and idles smooth. Thats' gotta feel good!

You are right Adam. It does feel good. Now, yesterday I got my tank bung welded in place and the old bung was removed and sealed up. I had two small leaks initially upon water testing. Once the leaks were sealed, I finally got the Pingel installed. I also welded a small bolt in the center of that dent and pulled it most of the way out with my new slide hammer. That's the last bit of welding to the tank, so I can actually use it now. If I had it to do over again, I would just hold out for a proper KZ1000 tank. This tank was a PITA to fit, but it's done.

I also changed the pilot jets to 17.5's. Time for some more laps of Bridgestone West.

i wish i would have saw this before you started on that tank. you should not start at the center but at the outside edges then work your way inward. it works out better and less repair afterwards

That's a good tip. It's no matter, the remainder of the dent will be corrected with filler. I just didn't want filler that was 1/4" deep. I'll keep that one in mind for the next time I pull a dent.

Mark, the screws were at 1 1/4 turns out from seated. I have the screws that are on the engine side of the carb. I suspect that this will change with the smaller jets. I doubt that I can fool with it today. I'm committed to catching up on car maintenance. Oil changes all around, and sadly the Miata needs a throwout bearing.
