1977 KZ1000 Street/Strip Project

Thanks! I've had lots of people stop me to talk about it over the summer.

Unfortunately, it's down again! "Missed" a shift and overreved it...bent 2 exhaust valves but I will replace all 4 since you can see where they all hit the pistons.

Looks rad. Love every bit of it. You nailed this one tachrev. How's the valve work going?

So, here is a link to my engine build after bending 2 valves:

Since I decided to pull the engine completely, I tore it down to the frame and did some clean up.

I cut off the kickstand and had my buddy reweld it further forward, since it was hitting my toe with the rear sets.

The we cleaned up some welds we couldn't get to from the suspension swap, added a steering stop.

After that I painted her back up and cleaned everything as I reassembled it.

New parts, other than the engine rebuild:

EK DR2 530 non o-ring drag chain tired of waiting for my $30 chinese special to smack me in the back of the head.

12cell Ballistic battery needed to replace the 8 cell I blew up with the charger. Wow, this 12 cell rocks! It sat in a box all winter with no charge and turned the bike over like it was a moped.

I wish. That was fun.

FYI everyone else reading...we rachet strapped it to a 2x6 and each grabbed an end.

A fully assembled KZ1000 engine weighs a lot. I carried it downstairs without the cylinders & head, starter, or stator cover on it.

Once you add all that....oye.

Welllll....they do it on grudge bikes to get as much wieght as far forward as possible, to help keep the front end down.

I doubt I make enough power for that to matter, so I mostly just did it for something different.

Actually, 69ranchero, who commented earlier, originally did it. I liked it and it's been that way ever since.
