Polish it

No pic Here is a picture i hope of a motor for an advertisement fo MASS polishing creme. how do you think they got the jugs and crankcase this buffed?

I can't say how good the product is, but I'll bet my shoes that the engine in the ad was freshly media blasted. Ed

I have a couple tubes of it sitting in my tool box. I guess I'll have to give it a test.

Polishing is a nasty dirty job. I shined the aluminum on my Ninja and it took at least six hours and i had the parts removed.
I bought all the small buffing tools from Tarheel products but have never used them.That is a lot of work trying to get in all the engine parts polished. Roy

This is like putting purfume on a hog. It's still a Hog!

I built this buff for under $30.00. I had the motor so i bought the pipe for $8.00 and the shaft cost $10.00 from tarheel.
I use the big clay bars to shine the parts with and finish with a liquid metal polish. Roy

Roy I'll bet you have an awful mess to clean up after buffing!! That's why my buffer is mounted on a wheeled table, so I can push it to the door and aim it outside. Have to check and see which way the wind is blowing first, wrong direction and it will blow all the stuff back inside :woohoo:

After an extensive buffing session I look like a raccoon, white where the goggles cover, black everywhere else :lol:

I dont know how some of you guys get these bikes so clean. I love working on em, but cleaning is not my forte'. :ohmy:
You have to be some kind of obsessive compulsive to get in those nooks and cranny's! I have this bike thats been sitting for 18 yrs, and the pitting and oxidation is bad. I know i have to get in there and clean it but... I keep staring at it hoping it would clean itself! :whistle:
Oh well.. Maybe ill pay the nephews to do it! Hmmm, introduction to motorcycle mechanics 101, wax on wax off! :lol:

Go and get some armor all aluminum wheel cleaner. Armour all is the only brand that works for me.
Then go to the car wash unless you have a pressure washer. I spray the armour all liberly on the bike. It will cut through oil and crud. It will make your engine and wheels look a lot better.

My buffer is mounted on wheels so i can move it. Roy

Thanks for putting the pik of the engine on for me.. I have a wheel on a grinder but that doesnt work so well on the cast jugs and crankcase. If a guy were to media blast it what would be the best media to blast it with, sand? glass? shells?

Walnut shells work very well as they embed a bit of their oil into the aluminum and it helps the natural finish of the aluminum stay a lot cleaner.
