Awesome, thanks for the pics and info on the scoop, I had the same issue with my scoop I bought that it was too narrow and hit the pipes.

The bike is looking great.

I've tried to get this dam fuel cap to quit leaking:angry: but it won't. I'm going to cut it out and make my own from scratch like I should have done to begin with. I'll post pictures.

I'm thinkin' that when YOU say you're making something from scratch:
(a) I believe it. And
(b) I'd rather have what you make, than what's on the market!

I have a new cap drawn up, but a friend is trying to talk me into fixing the one I have now. I ordered a flat O-ring that will withstand gas and I'm going to try and fill the vented part of the cap with some felt to try and stop the gas a bit. Only a small amount of air has to pass through there, right?

That bike is simply amazing. When the world goes to crap all of us KZR members need to gather in a big KZ Commune! I think we'd have everything covered and be rather self sufficient. :woohoo:

I am building an engine cooler for my bike now. I have the cooler part almost done. The ends will have some caps machined out of bronze. I'm going to cast some brackets to mount the coolers to the bike. I found a suppler that has the banjo fittings I need. Here is a quick picture of the cooler so far. Every other fin will be rounded also. Then polish;o)


I think I might incorporate a oil temp gauge while I'm doing this. I haven't decided for sure yet?

Where do you find your bronze for casting?

The bronze that I use is left over from the black powder cannons that I machine. I also buy some from the local recycler. The brackets are going to be cast from aluminum though. That way I can TIG weld them to the cooler.

I'm waiting for some fittings for my cooler, so I decided to start a new project. I saw a cool clutch cover someone had built for a Z1300 and I thought it would look great on mine. It was machined to hold a piece of glassB) I thought It would fit my bike very nicely. Here is a picture of me setting it up in my lathe. I drilled a hole in the center to locate everything off of.

I got that cover bolted up to my lathe. To start I drilled a 1" hole in the center of the cover. This let me get my boring bar in there.



Here is an action shot. The lathe is running here notice how blurred the outside of the clutch cover is;)



Here is the hole bored to size.



The housing is kinda thin. I had a friend come over and look at it. We decided to clean the face up at an angle and make the cap to fit it. I'm going to use 12 bolts to hold the cap on also. I'll post another picture in the morning. I just have to make the cap now and drill and tap the bot holes.

Bet you could sell one of those to a mechanic's school in a NYM. (But only if they could get there before one of us here!:whistle:

Here is what I decided on last night. There is a flat area for the glass to rest. Then there is a tapered area the cap will sit here. At the 12 3/4" mark you can see a faint scratch, that is the bolt circle. The shallow groove near the hole is to hold a bit of silicon. It will keep the glass from mooshing it all out.



I'm excited how this is turning out. It should look pretty good.
