wow... that is a sad photo to be sure.
If you are going to part out what's left, I might be interested in those forward controls though.

It doesn't look so bad. Mostly soot.
You should be able to clean up and not have to replace much.

That's an easy fix.

In 1971 I had just left Little Rock AFB after filling up my 70 H1 500 triple with gas, I was cruising along at 60 mph when it started missing out. I looked down at the motor and all I saw was flames. Discretion being the better part of valor, I bailed off the bike.
It rolled on down the road for a couple hundred yards, fell over on it's side and burned until a friend came along driving a base fuel truck and put the fire out with a powder fire extinguisher. That left a truly ugly mess.
It melted everything that was not metal, even the tires.
I rebuilt that bike in the parking lot outside the barracks where I was living.

The petcock vibrated loose from the bottom of the tank while I was riding, letting a full tank of gas pour right on top the motor.

That bike was a thousand times worse than yours, and I was just a poor E2 making about $75 a week at the time.

Yours is an easy fix. won't take much at all to fix, although I do understand wanting to throw up your hands in frustration and walk away, don't do it, you will feel an awful lot better after you fix it up again.

Sorry to see this man... but on the good side, think of the great before and after story you can tell! I vote for fixing it.

Excuse me... I'm off to check my fuel lines.

Nah its not that bad. You didn't get burned did you? If your ok then the bike is ok. Now you have the basis to do a great chopper rebuild.
Give us a shopping listof what you think your going to need and we'll watch out for it.

Thats a sad sight, Happened to me too, Had just made some custom filter housing with std foam filter, fuel must've blown back cos next ting i knew my ass was on fire and i had no extinguisher, and it was midnight,
Anyway, my neighbour (across) was watching me work (had a crush on me) and came to save the day:)
Well enough banter, my question is your headers look strange? are they all into one with the merge close to the port, do you have any pics from the front? i'm building a chop and i 'm thinkin bout redoing mine and i'm wondering about performance vs originality. Have you noticed a change?

Good one Rick! Sorry to see you bike go up like that, but it is fixable in no time actually. Check your wiring harness, manifolds, fuses, and other links to your carbs and make sure everything is tightened down next time. This is an experience you will learn from!

Wait a minute, Rick, don't just leave us hanging just like that! :woohoo:

Redrock, I can imagine being really bummed out about the fire. I think you'll find these guys are right when they suggest fixing it.
