Hello,
Last July I bought my first bike, an 83 kz1100. I've been lucky because even though I've laid it down 2 times they were both in the grass standing still. :( Anyway, story on the bike:
Previous owner said that he bought it from a shop who had bought it from the original owner. After buying it from the shop he started fixing it up with touch up type things. You can tell from the handpainted side covers and some slight overspray, but it still looks great. So far I've put 1100 miles on it and am loving it.

83 KZ1100A (shaft)
17 Versys X 300 abs
81 kz650h1
81 kz750e2
90 Honda CBR600F (brother's)

Looks like a very nice driver. If you want original paint side panels they aren't hard to find in that color scheme. The right is harder to find than the left. Make sure that right side panel is on tight whenever you take it off or you lift the seat. It seems they like to fall off at random. Ask me how I know.Mine's a '82, the color scheme is a bit harder to find but I did eventually get a decent set in original color.

Don't let that grab bar go anywhere either. even if you take it off... very hard to replace. I have one on the way so I can take my tail rack off. I don't NEED it to take off the tail rack but I'd like to have something back there even if just to have something to grab when putting it on the center stand.

Your instrument cluster is pretty unique to that year and model. It superficially resembles the '81 & '82 but it's all one piece instead of the 4 separate pieces of the 2 previous years. Keep an eye out for spares just in case. If it has an 85 mph speedo see if you can find one out of the UK it will probably at least go up to 120, more than likely 150.
