Unfortunately, while I'm a big proponent of using a service manual, as there is really no other reference, they do occasionally have errors.

If you go to my links page, in my signature, you will find several manuals. Most are Factory, and one is from a third party. Download all of them.

Your particular bike was the only year 550 that came with 1-phase stator. There are testing procedures in the manual, but the result data is wrong in some manuals.

Some manuals report the 3-phase result should be higher than the 1-phase result. This is wrong. (I think it may only be the 3rd party manual that is wrong in this case.)

When testing a stator for open-load, AC voltage, the output from a 1-phase stator should be higher than that of any wire-pair of a 3-phase stator.

At 4000 RPM, the 1-phase stator wire pair, unconnected, should put out near 75v AC.
At 4000 RPM, the 3-phase stator wire pairs, unconnected, should each put out near 50v AC.
