I use 1/4" line. After the filter, I heat up the line and put it on the 5/16 feed on the carb. Fits so snug you have to cut it off.

I don't want to hijack this thread but I bought one of these recently. Does anyone know what direction the fuel is supposed to flow? There were no instructions at all.

The fuel goes in on the side without the threads. Should be a arrow.

The 1/4" works well and without requiring any clips or clamps or whatever.

Here's a quick easy way to adequately heat-soften the hose ends without risk of melting or scorching the ends.
I use a coffee cup with about 1 inch of tap water heated to boiling in a microwave and dip the ends of the fuel hose for a moment or so in the near-boiling water just before easily slipping the ends over the nipples.

This looks exactly like a clone of a cool little blue anodized body sintered metal filter element I had back in the 80's on my hot rod 66 Mustang, sold by Russell performance products. The long end is the inlet, the short end "cap" went to the 6 mpg Holley 650 double pumper sitting on top of the ported Edelbrock Victor Jr. intake manifold...er, I mean your carburetor inlet...,damn I miss that car - yes, you can do wheelies with four wheels!

That way the filter presented a much larger area to the incoming fuel and didn't plug up as quickly. The element can be washed with solvent and blown out with compressed air from the "cup" side of the filter.

Where did you get this from?

Maybe its climate, but all the see-thru fuel and vacuum lines I have used in the past got hard and brittle after about 6-8 years, to the point of cracking if flexed to much, and they are impossible to remove without cutting them off at that point. The standard automotive (Goodyear as per Ed's post) black line has never let me down yet - I bought full coil spools of 3/16", 1/4", and 5/16" for my shop so I always have some handy for all kinds of projects.

I also don't use any gear clamps below 3/4" outside diameter hose in automotive / bike work.
