I'm not sure if this should be in carb or here. The hose from the oil breather on my 83 KZ1100 ltd is cracked big time where it hooks to the breather cap. I suspect that is where my oil is getting sprayed/misted out on top of the crank case. It will cost about $20 to get a new one (Partzilla) so I was looking for alternatives if any.
Don't fix it until it's broken.

If it's part number 92059-1170 in the parts diagram in the following link: www.powersportswarehouse.com/p/Kawasaki#...0-L1-1983/080157C-13 Partzilla's price is $11.12 (see www.partzilla.com/parts/detail/kawasaki/KP-92059-1170.html ), but shipping would drive the Parzilla price up higher. You may want to check the price at a local Kawasaki dealer. Their price for the part may be a little higher than Partzilla, but you shouldn't have to pay any shipping fee so you may save some money. Run the breather hose to the drive chain past the leading edge of the rear tire is a alternative
Lubes the chain for free .
Mine does this and works fine

My 350 Honda had it that way. Do you still have the air box? If so you can get them at Z1E, z1parts and many other places.

I fixed mine with some marine grade heat shrink tubing, the kind with glue inside. No ordinary hose wl make that bend without pinching closed.

All really good ideas. I'll check with the local dealer. I don't mind paying $11.25 but parzilla $7 shipping just irks me. I don't have any large diameter shrink tube but I think my brother in law has some. I have some silicon tape that I used to use to waterproof antenna connections. It is the kind that you stretch it while installing it and it "grows together" in a day or so. Maybe I'll give a try.

Hey gents,
the crankcase vent hose on my KZ750B is torn and I'm wondering whether to replace it running back into the air box, or if this is an opportunity to reroute it. My understanding is it runs into the air box mostly for smog reduction reasons (at the cost of recycling cruddy air into the system?) Is one more beneficial than the other?...just want my bike to be happy.

Assuming you engine is running well and the oil has not been over-filled, there shouldn't be much of anything other than air moving through the breather hose. My KZ650 is stock and I've never found oily residue in the airbox or air ducts, so I don't think there's very much oil coming through the breather hose. I've owned my bike since new (April, 1977) and it has 60,000+ miles on it.

On the other hand, my old BSA had the breather hose terminate just above the drive chain and blew so much oil through it that the chain and much of the rear of the bike and my back were always well lubed. Ed

Hey Ed,
I've checked in the air box and there doesn't seem to be any oil residue. Read a few threads and a lot of people seem to be rerouting their hoses, but mostly in the case of removing their air boxes. Will most likely repair it to stock, unless there is a strong argument for not doing so. My bike has 30,000 miles, I'd love to see it make another 30,000!

best
