I want to repack my Kerker K baffle for my ELR. I removed the megaphone and the bolt that retains the baffle in place. I then took a piece of wood and started to try and bang the baffle out. I finally took out my mallet and really pounded that sucker! Thankfully, no damage... but no movement either. I sprayed a bunch of Moovit, (penetrating oil), at the end of the baffle and I'm letting it soak overnight. My question is, does anybody know of any other tricks that might move that thing out?!

If it's not a chrome baffle, heat is a great idea, there's a good chance you have at least some rust or corrosion holding that sucker in. The aluminum endcap is great for being a corrosion magnet

Thanks, I wondered about using heat. It is the painted black one so I don't mind hitting it with a benzene torch for a while. Wow, I wondered why they even bothered with the retaining bolt, this bugger is fused onto the megaphone!

Once you get it out, do yourself a favor wire wheel the outside of the cap and coat it in high temp grease or antisieze for the next time. Just go easy, soak, heat and tap (okay, not tap, but dont murder the thing either.)

That bolt isn't for keeping in in. It's a tapered fit. It's supposed to be tight. I'd heat the out side where it seats, then pop it out. I've had baffles fly out on the FWY. I disfigured the lip so I had to drive it back in. If it rattles, it's too loose.

If it's chrome, use dry ice on the baffle.

Thanks for all of the suggestions guys. I soaked the area where the baffle contacts the inside of the megaphone for 36 hours with Moovit penetrating oil. I took my benzene torch and heated the area where the baffle is against the megaphone. I beat the living snot out of that sucker and nothing! I'm nearing the threshold of damaging the pipe, so I'm going to try and find a professional somewhere that has the proper tools and experience with this type of problem.

Funny, but even after this frustrating fiasco, I still love that Kerker! B)

Are there any tack welds visible?

Remove it from the middle and tap on the baffle end.
This will work if you have the original street baffle . The baffle is longer then the exhaust end
Did the same to mine when replacing the street baffle with the 2" race baffle
And the bolt is to hold the baffle in place so it won't blow out

Definitely no tack welds anywhere. I replaced the stock baffle with a 1.5 inch baffle that is in there now. A couple years ago I had a 2" competition baffle installed, but that was way too loud and I had difficulty tuning the engine properly with it. At the start of last year I had the 1.5 inch put back in. The bike was in the shop for some repairs so I had them do it. With the megaphone off you can see the end of the baffle at the elbow of the bend of the megaphone. The baffle end is laying flush along the inside of the megaphone so it is difficult to get any bite at the end of it to force it out.

What about using a slide-hammer at the outlet end?

You could wrap the outside with tape pretty thick and tap around the outside where the flange is with a hammer. Better yet a lead one. I use to have one but it disappeared. Maybe a block of wood or rubber mallet just to get it loose.

Yep. Slide Hammer will do it. If you don't have one you can make one easily enough or go to your friendly neighborhood Auto Zone and rent it for $0.
