Maybe coat the tire with VHT trac the night before a few times with a spray bottle? Also apparently you can't be worried about destroying the tire from burnouts to get heat in there, buddy of mine has rubber coating his KZ's tail and he also runs a fork strap...dunno if that'll help you though.

Wanted to get your alls thoughts on a second gear launch vs. 1st gear launch on a stock 81 GPZ1100. I am either not sticking it hard enough into second or it seems to be popping out of second into neutral every now and then so I was wondering if I just raised the launch rpm and leave in 2nd if I could get same 1/4 mile ET results or better since I am currently either going through the 1/4 mile traps in 4th or just shifting into 5th.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Sounds like your trans needs some work. If its popping out of gear....the dogs on the gear are worn and slips kicking it out of gear. Its a lot of work to get this fixed....have to pull engine and split the engine cases. RPM and launch will not help this issue, it will continue to get worse.

Beating on a tired trans is asking for trouble.

Pic is just example and not the gears. Trying to give you an idea what is going on.

 launching in 2nd will probably hurt your trans more than it's already damaged... sounds like it needs cut ... times will really suffer IMO even if it was doable .....

I always launch mine from first gear. I run with a -1 tooth front sprocket and do not get to last gear by the end of the 1/4. I lower my air pressure in the tire, strap the front down and have to slip the clutch off the line. My local track is very sticky at the line (VHT?). I usually run 12.20 - 12.40, but did have one perfect moment at the track where I ran an 11.99 and followed that up with a 12.00 a few minute later. Fun stuff!

OK tech tip here,
NEVER EVER roll through the water !!!!!!!
Even if you are going to do a burnout ,
Go AROUND the water and then back in to wet your tire.

The only time I had Killer at the strip was a test & tune Sunday.
Ran mid 12.30s the first run.
Then 12.00 with a .000 light the second and last run.
And yes I have the time slips somewhere.

Won some kind of trophy for the .000 but was not going to wait till the end of the day to pick it up.

Stock gearing
3.00/18 rear rim with a 130/80 Metzeler ME55
525 Lbs wet on the track scales. (very low on gas, that's why only 2 passes.)

Sounds like not bad for 55.000 miles and my normal killer state of tuneup B)

You'd think that but this stuff happens so fast you don't have time to think about it. I know...been there. Everything seems fine and then...BAM...you are lying on your back, bike is at 12 o'clock or any other out of shape. It happens so quick that you can't even recall it happening some times.
