I am not questioning your work, maybe its my eyes, but looking at the picture that is posted, the piece that is welded on, the part that goes at the bottom, it looks like its not level or parallel with top, does it matter?
I have a 1980 Kawasaki KZ750 Ltd. I bought new. I recently managed to get it out of my garage after 28 years and put it on the road again (2010). I feel like a kid all over again. Since I have acquired 3 78 KZ1000 Ltd, 1 1981 KZ1000 Ltd, and another 1980 KZ750 Ltd. Love the LTD's.

Your eyes are right mopguy, it's not parallel. not designed to be. look at almost all underbraced arms you'll see a theme. Couple reasons, a triangle is strong and chain clearance.
Test fit of a similar chain guard to what I'll be running, ready for powder coat

Upper shock mount retainer/fastener

Start on getting triple trees wrapped up and front mounted tomorrow.

Mopguy, I'm not done with this one yet! First bike I've worked on for myself in almost 2 years and promise to set new bar for my shop!

Dave, tire size changed today, after I started to do a mockup and it wouldn't even come close to making center. I have brand new takeoffs from a 2015 R1 Yamaha, the tire is a 190/55-17 and it's a monster!!! Just bought a R6 wheel which is 1/2" narrower than the R1 and going to order a 170 or 180/55-17 Michelin, experience with them seems they are 1/4"-1/2" narrower than Dunlops so all this should provide perfect clearance.
As for fitting your footpeg arrangement, that was one of the build criteria, it had to clear factory peg mounts.B) B) B)

Looks like a frame mod to me. Since the arm is 2" longer could you have not moved the shock mount on the swingarm back to accomplish the same geometry?

Anyways, looking nice as always Les.

Yeah, more than that, sometimes intentions are well meant, just hard to keep.
On the shocks location, I've shot for 30 deg angle shocks for years on my swingarm builds and probably could have done that here by moving the bottom shock mounts back but,,,,, after playing with a shock to tire movement ratio and looking at bulldocks and sanctuary builds, they had to know something so I started mocking up and a big gain, other than getting the 30deg is almost getting a parallel alignment side to side.
If you notice, I did cut the rear peg hangers off as well so a little more modified than just gussets.

Had to get home to get to these pics. this is the back end of the rootbeer brown bike I did last year. you can see that the top of the shocks are layed in.

Look close at this pic, it shows how much the shock is moved out.
