Got the cases split. I think they are fine a bit of scaring on the surface where the broken bearing was.
I am probably going to send the tranny to Robinson Motorcycle transmissions , I never used them before but they will do a rebuild for $300.00 plus parts and shipping . This includes disassembly, inspection, undercut 2nd through 5th engagement cogs.

I have never tried to rebuild one myself and don't have the tools for it or any good means of measuring for runout and such, although it all looks good except for the bearing failure and I suppose second gear and the related bushing may be buggered uo.

There are a bunch on ebay for under $200, but I am skeptical, VERY skeptical, and the seller of them sells a lot of parts and some are good and others not.
I wish I knew someone who has used Robinson Industries, they are well know so I will proceed with confidence.
Like I said before the other two bike I have have trannys from MRE and they are great! I would recommend them but both those trannys where A LOT more than $300.00 plus parts, but they also where going into bikes that were heavily modified from stock.
Im trying to be smart and frugal …

Looks like the race spun in the case.

It spun. The damage looks much worse in pics than real life. I'm going to clean it up and once I get a good tranny I will decide if I should use some loctite 660 compound. I don't think I'll need it but I will have to wait and see.

I had a main bearing that looked like it had started to spin. I took a sharp punch and put three divots in one side. When I split the cases to put in my new tranny all looked good. If it's real bad it can be knerled.

What would cause that outside of lubrication failure? A broken chain locked the tranny? Burn out abuse?

It looks to me like it's gonna leak even if u can stake a race. Perhaps not. R

Chances are it was abuse. The seal rides on a collar next to the sprocket.

There's been a few people that have had that outboard bearing failure on here, usually happens on the shaft drive bikes more often.

If that's just the inner race that's broken you shouldn't have too much worry, what makes you believe 2nd gear needs attention? Outside of a back cut if you're paranoid of blowing one, a streetbike shouldn't need any attention or mods to the trans

It was abuse, as simple as that, there were no issues with the bike, only issue was the rider
I don't think it will leak (ya right!) the damage really does look worse in pics than real life.
And i am purely speculating on 2nd gear it looks ok but there is some damage on the washer and from inspecting it without taking it apart the bushing it rides on looks like the edge is a bit scared. I hope its just the bearing and the washer.

I have never staked a bearing, so if I do I just dimple the lower case where the bearing rides in a couple spots??

You many not have to rebuild it. Pics of the dogs and gears? I did three just enough to raise the surface a little in those places. They should flatten out when compressed.
