Got some help yesterday unexpectedly and put the motor back in the frame ….My daughter and her boyfriend stopped by so I put him and my son to work for 20 min, Its nice to have strong young backs to help out
And to think I used to pull and replace my suzuki 1150 motor by myself…although it is easier to get into the frame.
This getting old thing isn't easy.

Moving forward SLOWLY…UHG…to much working not enough playing….

Got the carbs totally dissembled and am soaking and cleaning them all new rubber parts, o-rings, ect ect. going in.
The jets that are in them now are not marked except the pilot, I am 80% sure it had a jet kit (Dnyno jet maybe) put in it back in 1990,
I have searched the site fairly thoroughly but still just a bit confused.
The plugs that came out of the bike are BLACK , very rich, thinking of going back to stock jets if it is possible,

I will be running the stock air box and it has a Mac Tri-Y header and baffle, but I dont think they flow that much different than stock.

What are the stock jets, bleed tube and main jet, needle?

Thanks

Set the floats tonight, may be able to get them back together by next week, still waiting for a accelerator pump retainer clip ..stupid little things, man they fly!!

I have seen this done on another forum and thought I would give it a shot to see if the float needles and seat seal, and to set the float height.
Worked well, I noticed my pictures seem to show that the measurement was taken from the wrong spot but it is an optical allusion, all of them 3mm from where the manual shows to check them from.
I let each one sit for 10 min or so after I got the float height right and watched to see the needles and seats worked well.
Hope thats long enough, but there was NO change in fuel height.
Checked and adjusted them, then went back to the first one and did a recheck of all of them again to be sure.
Made sure the top of the glass was level and checked that the carbs sat on the glass level,

A very good test bench for the float bowl high.
BTW your oil gate mod is the same way i have done, except i use a copper washer, a drop of Locktite and a head nut on the out site of the oil pan. Never has a leak or a drop of oil there.

Wish I had a bit more free time for it, but it will get done.
I just saw a video on this site with a great way to check the carbs somewhat similar.
I saw that way to check fuel height on a different site and thought it was a great way if the carbs are off already.

On another bike I have, I have only checked float height and have played with the float height tuning the carbs and found that as little as 1/2mm change of float height changes the low speed jetting enough to notice. Now I want to go back and see how much the fuel height is affected by that small change on the float height…another experiment I will never get to !!

Well the old KZ lives again!! Fired right up!! Hasn't seen the road in 20 yrs until this week!
I am fighting one small air leak praying I dont have to remove the manifolds, but it may be necessary, iit has a leak right at the top of the manifold on cyl #1 very tiny but you know how that works..UGH
Also the dash lights aren't working so I need to check that out.
BUT all in all its running well, the tranny is smooth as silk!! Rode it around for a while last night, down to my shop to do some welding...LOVE IT!! I forgot how wonderful these bike are!!!, Great sound , strong engine, smooth, powerful, Cadillac like !!

Thanks to all who replied and helped me here!
Thanks Steve (Swest) for posting the tranny for sale on ebay , great buy!.

Getting some new rubber under it , Shinko 712's we will see how they work, I have run Podiums and Verge from shinko with great results.
Its going to be a good summer for me !
