which ain't a bad thing if you ask me  .

your bodywork has that funky cool 70's vibe.

i love the stance and everything else about the bike.

kinda on the fence over the bodywork tho,it can't help but be cool i think.

i am still waitin to see how you bring it all together with the paint

Ah good observation, his could be trimmed at the front too, which would definately contribute to it looking smaller. I kinda wish I noticed that before I like it more single like. We'll see where the foot pegs line up to first then may be I will modify it. The tire area overhang currently lines up well with the rear tire so I don't think there is much room to play with unless I chop the overhang as well a bit. Seems a shame to chop 1979 stuff though. Seeing it sanded green I think your and others are right, it's kinda 70's weird.

HAhaha! The paint is going to be well done, the base will be super white so some of those crazy lines will blend to being less dominating as they appear now. The paint scheme I have in mind is slightly crazy yet simple like no one has ever seen (hopefully) but I think it will fit well to the odd body shapes.

You will see! Muaaahahahaha.

PS I might need a custom upper trip. I'm going to trim mine but I'm worried about its solidarity after trimming it. I think it will be ok short term but long term I will need something different.

Ok I got through a bunch of hurdles this weekend.

One was my sprocket offsets, solved in this thread. Some of you are already involved in that thread.

kzrider.com/forum/5-chassis/576511-58-of...t=20&start=20#577282

Second my triples are not hitting the tank any more. I had to move the tank back a bit cause I noticed the petcock was almost touching the super charger. I'm hoping there is enough room still.

I modified the R1 fender some more, I thought I almost broke it. I like it a lot more now. :cheer:

I finally figured out what those tear drop bolts were for after sitting on the garage floor for 2 weeks. lol. :pinch: :silly:

I also tackled the fun filled world of body filler. That sucked, 6 hours later of applying and sanding.. My whole garage is covered in dust now. Oh well that's how we learn these things I guess. I used glaze for the other stuff after that, lol.

I'm hoping to get to prime next weekend cause its supposed to be warmer and since the primer is 2k I want to do with with the garage door open. I'm getting a full face mask too and a suit.

I was also grinding the fork stops for the handle bars. Should I go as far as I can without the clip-ons hitting the tank?

Thanks man. I was thinking about chopping the rear fender too. Let me know what you think. Ignore the bad photo-chopping skills.

How long is the curved section you photoed out? With sidecovers it might look better with a little curve there but shortened up a bit.

I did a few things last night;

The area you were asking about looks to be about 3". I have decided to chop it now. It's too bad that I got the seat made cause I would have shortened the seat too. The side covers don't fit due to the tank and the petcock in the way, doh! That's ok though, there is going to me a massive air filter inside.

The battery isn't going to fit any more.. :pinch: I might have to get a lithium battery and put it under the top of the seat. Also have to relocate the electronics and fuel pump, etc. I hate doing that shit.

I drilled the upper triple to take handle bars and it didn't look good for one. Second it didn't offer much difference over the clip ons using a strait and clubman bars. The clip-ons felt more comfortable surprisingly.

Ground clearance is 6" with the oil pan without the exhaust. I wasn't planning on changing the exhaust to next year but might have to this year now. We'll see once I get the rear shocks mounted.

I cant paint this weekend now cause it still too cold. :(

I also looked at the strategy for the foot pegs which I will enclose a pic, I feel good about my plan there. Going to need to make a plate that mounts to the stock holes.

What do people normally do with the steer stops after modding the front forks, do keep shaving them until you dont hit anything? What's the typical turning radius you need to target for cause I though about chopping the stops on the lower trip 100% and drilling and tapping a couple allen bolts to stop it instead. I am using the stock kz steering neck stop.

Steering stops are so different with each setup, but what you propose sounds very neat and adjustable. Is the stock KZ head steering stop adequate? It always seemed a bit wimpy to me especially next to the modern forks stops. One thing that might work as well is to keep the stops on the forks and drill/tap the allen bolt arrangement to the headstock instead. Steering radius will be less than stock and I think the only limit will be the tank (not hitting it that is) It only affects steering at parking lot speeds though. Is there no way of shortening the seat based on what you have? taking material off is so much easier than adding it.

Looking very good :) :)

Ok I will keep going till I get close to hitting something.

Ya I looked at shortening the seat. I can only go so far before the sides start interfering with the frame. I will look at it more closely this weekend cause I'm thinking even though I spent 250 for getting the seat done I will get them to re-do it cause I think a more single seat look will be better.

Another cool find. When I re-do my exhaust it will look similar to this.
