Under hard acceleration (especially modified engines) the oil runs quickly to the back of the engine causing the oil light to illuminate and starves the engine of precious lube. The gate closes under acceleration preventing starvation

It use to happen all the time on my bike. Now I think it was a weak oil pump. Still want one though.

Unless the pump has crap through it they should last forever without deteriorating too much, my Z1R standard used to surge oil under hard acceleration, when my motor was in current form is was really bad so I stuck a hinge in the sump.
Luckily no (visible) damage occurred (usually to the far end crankshaft bearing, after many/lots miles my brother's Z900 had this problem ) . The cam bearings seem to work with little or no oil (try that on the new heads that run cams).

When I took my pump apart in 13, the flat plate had shallow grooves in it. The clearance between the gears were in spec but I took the best parts from two others I had to make one. The plate I sanded with #600 paper on a sheet of glass. Now I have plenty of pressure, maybe too much.No problems for three years.

Not original color. It is a color I have wanted to do something in for a long time. It is 2003 Jaguar Racing Green Pearl.
