primary side of the coils 2.8 ohms both of them.

Act. battery voltage is 12.44vdc at the coil 12.01vdc

I took the start stop housing apart to see the condition of the switch and found aa massive nest of ants. possible could they be grounding out the kill switch?

Imo good voltage figures because indicates not losing significant voltage between battery and coils. If spark at plug tips is weak, it would more likely be due to something such as old hard leaking plug wire, faulty plug cap, or bad connection between plug wire at coil or at cap.

Depending on condition of plug wires, trimming the end might improve connection at cap.

Coil resistance also seems okay.

Won't hurt to clean out the kill switch.

Regarding compression, are valve clearances within specs?

Good Fortune! :)

Took it off the bench for another test ride and did the same but there was a new development. first corner I came to the bike signed off restarted normal turned the handle bars and it just signed off again so there has to be a problem in the harness. I will cuut it open and take a look. The bike really needs a new harness anyway.

From your other posts it's a KZ1000LTD, not a MKII. 1979 KZ1000LTD came from the factory with points ignition. If it's a 1980 that was the first LTD with electronic
321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

Excellent observation by RonKZ650.

If bike at hand is 1979 KZ1000-LTD with oem points ignition replaced with existing electronic ignition, it may be a Dyna-S, which calls for 3 ohm or 4 ohm coils, and no igniter or inline resistor.

Wonder what electronic ignition is now on the bike.
Perhaps Dyna-S, which calls for 3 ohm or 4 ohm coils.
Or conceivably (imo unlikely) a transplanted MKII electronic ignition with igniter and lesser ohm coils with inline resistor.

Regardless of exact ignition, the harness issue should be investigated as noted, and correction might alone resolve the performance issue.

Good Luck! :)
