My 77' 1000 is not really a project, but I'm always looking to change and improve things so maybe it qualifies. :P

It's in drag race trim in these pictures because I just got back from a 3 day race weekend.

I've had this bike for 26 years and it was pretty much stock when I bought it, except for the pipe. Over the years I've added a 1075cc Wiseco kit, 34mm flat slide Mikukis from an 86' GSXR750, Dynojet kit, Barnett clutch, Accell coils and wires, Dyna S ignition, WM6 Akront rear rim, GSXR swingarm, caliper and rotor, (adapted to the stock KZ hub), and I welded shock mounts on to keep the retro look.

The future holds a late model Gixer front end, swingarm, wheels and brakes, and more motor work of course!!

Hi TerryK!

This is one of the very, very few times I´ve seen those Mikunis in a Kwak. I got those in mine, they are TM33-8012 -flatslides. Did Canada get those Gixer750´s back in the ´80s? Nobody seem to know about those carbs.

What´s yor experience of those? Easy to dial in? How´s your low-end, smooth or rough? Mine are pretty rough running below 3krpm but above that run very well and lots of power.

The first GSXRs actually landed in Canada BEFORE most other countries, including the US. I managed to find a shop manual for tuning the carbs but it still took a long time to get them right. One thing I did find was, I had what looked like a lean condition at first so I kept going up on jet sizes. Turns out I was going the wrong way. The bigger jets were causing the plugs to be "washed" and it looked just like it was too lean. I ended up dropping a bunch of sizes and it came around nicely.

After much tweeking, they run smooth and crisp from off idle to well past red line. I did lose a bit of low end torque as I believe they are a bit too much carb for a basically stock engine, but they pull hard as hell from 4k and up. A set of cams is in the works and it will wake up the engine considerably.

I believe I have all my jetting specs written down somewhere. I'll have a look for them and pass them along. If I can't find them, I'll get all the info next time I have them off (soon). If you have roughly the same elevation where you live, it should work for you.

Leon,

I LOVE The Z1Rs. My friend has a mint black one with a big bore and 33 smooth bores. What kind of swingarm and rear wheel do you have on yours? Looks cool!

thanks for the compliments i built the swingarm from 4130 .065 wall 1" cro-mo to house a 2000 r1 rear wheel and brake system.i built my own offset countershaft sprocket to convert to 520 chain and sprockets.here is a pic before the x-brace in the front and the chain notch for clearance.

and here is one of the swingarm after i pulled the wheel for some new brakes.here you can see the x-brace in the front and the notch for the chain along with the sliders i built to keep the chain off the tubes.it works really well and is very rigid.

click the white box and the pic will show up  .

Lol, for sure! My swingarm swap was inspired by me following a friend on a 900 into a corner and actually SEEING his rear wheel go a few degrees off center. Scared the crap out of me!!

Here's a picture with the suspension back to normal. (but still with the slick)

your bike has a great look to it.if it was mine i would probably think i wanted to change something but wouldn't be able to figure out what.maybe a short ltd front fender and a stock type decal set, thats it.i got nothin, great bike, killer stance with the shocks on.upon further investigation i don't think i would chnage a thing, simple effective i could look at it for hours.
how do you like your steering damper?
what brand shocks do you have ?
is the frame gusseted?
will you be using irishwills tripple trees to convert to the gixxer frontend?
what wheels when converted?
did the swingarm make a noticable difference in handling?
sorry for all the q's,but i need to know things.hehe.
