Now that my carbs are on the way to wiredgeorge, I will put some basically uninteresting pics up to show where I am with my project.
The engine will get a good once over by my engine guy in October, when his regular business drops off. That will give me time to address all the other stuff.
I am looking to use Gun Kote for most of the parts, but not for the tins. They will be a special project by another friend. So, I will be picking up an oven at the second hand store and using it in the garage of a (bachelor) buddy.
Has anybody been successful at fitting a frame in an oven?
I am thinking that two ovens could be spliced together and re-insulated. I will be checking this concept out with an electrician friend.

So, the big thing I need to do is nail down the design of the final project. i have bits and pieces in my mind, but there is a lot to decide and I just need to get started on that as I wait for other things to come together.

The Vulcan in the Pics is my everyday ride. It will be going to a good friend in September, and I will then be able to spend even more time on the project.

I am down to a bare frame except for the unknown item in the pictures. I have no idea what it is, never used it for anything when i was riding it before, and cannot find it in my owners manual, clymers, or the kawi part diagrams on line.

Does anyone know anthing about this thing? I mean the "D" shaped chrome doo-hickey half way up the rear tube. It is rubber mounted into the frame and i have no idea how it comes off.

Security cable, it's used to lock your bike to some other object.
Twist it back and forth while pulling on it and one end should come out.

here is my frame back from the powder coater. He did a great job. He discovered a tear in the frame, which one of the guys at work did a beautiful job repairing.

For anyone asking the question above (what is this do-hickey?) PLEASE don't mess with it! I got the chrome P appliance off, but the tube and the braided wire cable(1/2 inch dia) extend all the way down into the frame tube. So, another bit of welding magic, and finally my frame gets back to p. coater and finished. Whew!

WELL, YOU COULD CALL THE EVENTUAL STYLING A "CAFEFIGHTER". I AM FOCUSED ON GETTING REJUVENATED AND ROAD WORTHY FIRST, AND THEN NEXT YEAR ACOMPLISH MY STYLING CHANGES. THIS MAY BE A LONGER PATH THAN NORMAL, BUT WHO CARES? i LOVE THE WORK, SO I DON'T CARE.

I DON'T WANT TO TIP MY HAND TOO MUCH, BUT I HAVE A BUDDY WHO'S GOING TO DO THE "COACH WORK", AND HE IS A MASTER BOAT BUILDER (WE LIVE BY THE SEA)WHO CAN'T WAIT TO START. ANYBODY HEAR "WOOD" BEING BANDIED ABOUT?

THANKS FOR THE COMMENTS, GUYS. MORE PICS SOON.

All that matters is that you love the work! I love all 11 (yeah, you read that right) of my machines.

Will be stripping mine shortly to get started on it. I am glad to see another headed in a direction I can follow with some ideas.....
