Tailpiece in grey primer...whole bike pics! was created by ronboskz650sr
Well, I wanted to ride today, but decided the weather was good enough to paint, so here's the tailpiece, after spot putty, sanding, and now in grey primer. After surfacing this, the black lacquer will go on quickly, and I'll finally have my all black bike.
Under the plastic is my test seat cushion and cover...If this seat test rides as weel as I hope, I'll modify the back of it to meet the top of the tailpiece, then get it covered at the upholstery shop. Getting close! Getting stoked!
Here are three actual pictures with no drawing! The tailis just in a single black guide coat for sanding out the primer...and the taillight is masked, but this is the first time (with test seat) the bike has been all painted and put together since the start of the project...now I'm even more stoked!

That's some nice work, Ron, but are you sure the paint fumes haven't gone to your head? The weather is too good to ride?
Are you planning on putting the SR emblems back on when you're done with the body work?

Really..what am I thinking? I don't have SR emblems, but I have dubbed this bike the SR-79. The tail looks so much like an SR-71 nose, I can't resist. I will make some plates to put in the original holes that say SR-79.

I like the way this is turning out. The seat will look great with that tail once its covered. Very nice work.

Thanks! After I get the seat test ridden, and confirm the correct firmness, The whole middle section will be cut down about an inch, and slope up in the back to meet the tailpiece. The cover will be attatched to the upright section of the tail, so the cushion is flush in the back with the fiberglass tailpiece, like this...
I'll post some pics of the seat mod process when I do it. At the moment, it's just a single piece of foam carve with a turkey knife...I'll be adding some to it, and taking some off...stay tuned!

I'll be looking forward to your seat mods. I might be attempting something similar this winter.

ronboskz650sr , I noticed in the Road warrior movie last night , that theres was a bike on there with nearly the identical rear tailpiece on one of them, it was cool seeing one of the members ideas in a movie.
Just wanted to let you know, if by chance you didnt know already.

Thanks, Randy...pure coincidence, though. Makes me feel like it's a good idea if they used it in a movie, although not sure I want that image  .
