I'm just here to learn about motorcycles. My name is a mixture of my nickname (Nova) and my actual name (Scott). I have done about 300 miles on BIcycle in NovaScotia and it is by far my favorite place to ride. I hope to revisit someday with something that has a motor.

Hey all, with these crazy warm Temps here in Michigan, I got motivated to start getting the bike ready for paint. I did a Citristrip round and was blown away by what I found underneath.
Original Silver (?) Paint job with intact decals on the tank - under what ever the blue paint was.
I'm so happy, the paint looks to be in really good shape on the tank I did one side cover too and it wasn't in as good shape.
Anybody ever freshen up the decals with paint? Is this color rare or anything?

I have several restored bikes along with a 2006 Goldwing with a sidecar. My wife has a 2019 Suzuki DR 650 for on and off road.

Those side badges will come off easily. They are held on with two screws. Then you can properly strip that area.

That is standard color, Metallic stardust silver, used on the “C” model. They were built from 1977-1979.

That specific tank color and decal were only on the 1978 C2 model. The model year before and after are different, the 1978 stardust color is the hardest to paint match. That color is similar to the same year Z1R (probably slightly different again)
You can find 650 model info here :

Thanks for the post. First I didnt know about the 1980 C4. Next I wasn’t aware the one year only color of the C2.That specific tank color and decal were only on the 1978 C2 model. Blimey, a stripper that leaves the original paint intact. I have a Zeph11 that some previous owner put a go faster 'café racer' stripe down the tank and tail fin with a rattle can. I was expecting to have to repaint it completely. I'm on mainland Europe so not sure it's available here but would be interested to learn more about the product. I realise it would probably need a clear coat but better than starting from scratch.
