Are they are meant to be painted? It seems a bit strange to have a painted surface inside the fuel tank

I primed my tank last week and just tapped off the neck to stop the paint from entering the tank . There was paint in there but i removed most of it before priming. The tank must have been stripped to bare metal and painted by a previous owner as theres no sign of the original paint.

Now my spare tank looks like it was resprayed silver over the original red paint and there are signs of red inside the filler where i have scrapped the fuel damaged paint off.

Kawasaki never painted the openings on the 70's Zs. For sure there should be no paint at the gas cap gasket sealing surface.

For future reference eebbaayy photos of nos parts are handy for stuff like this. There might not be the exact same tank listed, but there are usually plenty of other nos tanks.
