Hey,
I'm new to this forum but I've just tried Evapo-Rust to remove the rust from my gas tank. The stuff is amazing and you can buy it at Autozone or online (cheaper).
You just need to sink the part in the Evapo-rust solution and have a couple of beers while the rust will melt away (around 30 min). The solution is biodegradable and there's no need for gloves or such things since it's not acid. I'm not trying to promote this thing but it worked for me!
