Does the 1979 KZ1000 use one key for all or one key for the seat/gas tank and one for the ignition.
I have a KZ1000 MkII that I got in pieces and only have one key..

One key should fit all the locks unless someone changed out the ignition. The gas tank has no tumblers so pretty much any key will open it.

The Gringo is correct...but beware that ignition upgrades (= new key) are a very common problem in older bikes. I have four bikes and all have two keys each (different one for the ignition) Gas cap tumblers in KZ's were not keyed until 1983...prior to that, any comparable Kawasaki key will open a keyed gas tank.

Welcome.
Stock Ignitions will have a key code on the top, back or side that falls into one of these series:
It wont attach, but is listed in this thread: Ign Switch numbers .

Yes it does. The mkII has a different(ignition) seven wire plug in too. My switch was bad and I had no keys either. Just run two different keys now.
