Sportster 440 HD shocks
18 inch rear wheel
Rear shock help! was created by trippinout
Just got my 81 KZ 750 rebuilt, repainted, and retagged. During this rebuild I bought an 18" rear wheel vs the 16" rear wheel by mistake. Realized it after I got it installed and actually like the way the bike sits with it. Problem is that I am a 300lbs man and if I hit a bump; I can hear/feel the tire rubbing under the rear fender. Have to buy new shocks anyway, was wondering if I could buy shocks that are longer to fix this problem?

How long are the shocks on the LTD? If they are shorter than my 78 750 twin shocks, how about a trade?

Going to look into the HD sportster ones. securitygeek - I would trade, but would not feel comfortable sending you shocks that I believe are spent. (Damping adjuster on the right left just spins) HEY, if anyone here lives in Maryland, Baltimore area, there is Crazy Rays in Curtis Bay (by coast guard base). They had 4 KZ's there for parts. Its a u pick it, u buy it junk yard.

Trippin...can't really help You on the "Shocks" issue,Bud,but...when You bottomed out,You might have worn through Your taillight wiring, which on My bike, runs UNDER the rear fender. Not too sure on Your bike, but You might want to take a look up/in there to see if You've done any damage to the wiring,if it IS exposed under there.

If you can't get the 18" to work, I have a 16" mag sitting in my garage off a 79 KZ650 SR. Not sure if it is the same setup as the 81 750. PM me and I will send you a picture of it and the specs. I am actually looking for an 18"!

trippin, for my money the best used bike parts place in the Baltimore/DC area is Baltimore Cycle Salvage. I'm not sure how a u-pick-it and pay junk yard could possibly be any cheaper than Dean. He's really helped me out a lot, w/parts, help and advice, on my rebuild.
He's been having some trouble w/his google listing since he has moved. pm me if you want his phone#
