Keeping license plate on? was created by psychbiker
I've tried searching the forums and Googling, but don't think I can narrow the search properly.

How do you keep the license plate from working its way free?
I used what I thought were locking bolts, but discovered after an 80 mile ride yesterday, the plate was hanging by one bolt.
Thoughts?

Just use a dab of Silicone adhesive on the thread ends. Keeps them on until you want them off.

use a nylon locking nut, or use red loctite.

I've used about everything out there and have settled on using zip ties. Get black ones so you don't see them. I have the bolts from Z1Ent and will also wire tie to keep the plate on.
I used to have an H-1 in 1974, and found that my license plate would get some grime and smoke and oil on it.... I used a brillo pad to get the oil off and it also took off most of the painted numbers on the plate. Don't try this at home.... but it did make it harder to read.

Whenever I need a self-locking nut and I don't have one, I take a regular nut and squish it ever so slightly with a pair of Vise-Grips. It works good, but you will need a little practice to get the right amount of squish. If you don't have spare nuts (and who couldn't use a spare nut) I wouldn't try my method unless you are desperate and are very good at judging squish.
