77 KZ1000 model question was created by tennacnightman
Kinda in a jam. I've ordered several parts for my 77 KZ1000A and now I'm not so sure it is a "A" model. My title indicates Model KZT and the first part of the Vin is KZT00AE..... Does this indidicate a LTD model or not? I purchased the bike in 85 and was told it was a KZ1000A but now I'm doubting that. Also is there a way to submit my Vin Number and get a full description of my bike's make and specific model? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

You're fine.
Whenever I need to check a VIN or engine number, I use Zedder. www.zedder.com
Go to Bike Info, then find your year/model.
The LTD would start with VIN KZT00B. Yours starts with KZT00A, so it's a KZ1000-A1.
Oh yeah, welcome to the site!
And of course....

Welcome to the site! Yea, with that VIN you know that at least the frame is an "A" model. It seems that many of the older bikes are a mix of standard and ltd parts. It's always hard to tell what you're getting when you buy used, but you should be OK. The bikes share many parts. What type of wheels do you have? Spoked or mags? 19/18 or 19/16?

Thanks Itdrider for the link it was extremely helpful. Will know tomorrow exactly what my frame number is though. It appears that my engine number, per my title, is in the 77 KZ1000-A1 class. Makes me feel much better since I ordered a Vance Hines 4 into 1 header for what I thought I had. I'll see how that works soon. Thanks again, it's great to have folks like yourself that can help someone, like myself, raise an old classic from the grave and not make too many mistakes.

79MKII, seems like that is what has happened to me. I ordered a seat repair kit for a standard 77 A model and it didn't fit my LTD seat, Duh Huh. Should of known better. Pictures can be deceiving sometimes and this was one of those time. My 77 has the same style seat as Wireman's so I should be alright ordering the LTD seat kit for a 78, found that out by digging around on my seat and found a info on the bottom sticker. It's labeled with a 78 reference. Thanks also for you response. Very helpful info from all that responded. And great looking bikes from all that posted responses. Problem now is getting someone to paint my tank, tail and side covers. It's harder than pulling tiger's teeth to get someone willing to paint a few items on a bike. Again a learning process, hard one, but I'm sure that I'll eventually find a solution to that one as well. Much appreciated, thanks again
