How old are those tires?  Date code?

I wouldn't use tires like that for any kind of serious riding.

They were very poor when new. rear wore out in no time and the front loved rain grooves and lines in the road. Got a K81 for the front and a Chin Shin for the back and "RODE THE PISS OUT OF IT".
Now I'm running Shinko Tour Master 230's

Ha Ha then i know that .They are made in Japan and i hope the rubbercompound is better than back in 76.The batlax is good but the bike feels to light in the front, but that is maybe the way this bike is I will try adjusting the rear dampers stiffer and check the fork oil level.

I use vintage look tires on my putt around bikes. The ones I don't ride hard and put little milage on.
For the Magna, it gets modern tires.

That is what im thinking i will just mostly putt around with this bike and it dont need supersticky tires. On my fj1200 i use pirelli sport demons ,but stopped using their front tire after dicovered a big deep cut and a bulge in front tire. Now use metzeler in front I remeber when i had a fj1100 back in 1989 or something
it had a michelin m48 rear tire if i remember right .It was extremly slippery in rainweather like made of plastic.

Our preferred vintage-look tires were Conti Twins for decades.  We discovered last winter they're NLA in Z1 sizes.  So we chose IRC GS-11's for one of our '74 Z1-A's we prepped to ride for it's 50th. birthday this season.  Vintage look & inch sizes.  The offset ribs on the front don't track rain grooves anywhere near as strongly as parallel ribs do.

We don't wail on our Z1's, pretty much only do day or weekend joyrides.  A 200 mile day would be about the most we'd do on a Z1.  Seldom tour on them any more, not like the thousand mile week tours we used to do years ago.  Our high-mile putts these days are on our '93 750 Nighthawks and / or our ST1300A for two-up jaunts.

I have Dunlop K87 and F11 on my Z1.  They ride just fine but like Jim I don't ride it like I did as a youngster.  I remember several years ago I was running through some nice corners thinking "Boy am I ever leaning this thing over!"  Then I looked behind me and saw three cars waiting to pass.

I have several restored bikes along with a 2006 Goldwing with a sidecar. My wife has a 2019 Suzuki DR 650 for on and off road.

Thank for input guys !  i just remembered that there is one drawback with the tires and that is it is not tubeless.I will fit them on the bike anyway to make it look as original as possible. Hardrockminer: wasent there a picture of your bike here in this tread can not find it now the bike looked great with the vintage tires.

I'm in my sixth decade and just had a grandchild. This is not a new rule at all but I won't ever ride anything on shite tires. I've replaced 36 month old tires for new when a younger version of me only replaced them when they were really worn down. Bridgestone BT-46s on everything.
