rear brakes dragging was created by freebyrd24
im havin a big problem with the rear disc brake draggin on my 78 kz650sr. when i got the bike, it dragged a little bit so i went to bleed it, when i bled it, it shot a little out then nothing, no pedal. so i dissassembled the master cylinder and the calipers. master had a little surface rust on the piston and was frozen, fixed that, and got one of the caliper pistons out. i cant get the other one out. so i re assembled and now the brakes work, but they r dragging again.

1.) any good way to get that stubborn piston out of the caliper? (compressed air didnt work)

2.) is this causing my rear brake draggin issue?

thanks

you could take the caliper off the mount leave it connected to the master put a clamp on the good piston and use the master to pump out the bad piston, WARNING keep all fingers clear, try to get the piston to go in a bucket or just put it in a bucket if you can, also watch out for fluid it can ruin you day:P

this procedure could cause loud noises from your bucket or from the misses "going what the hell was that if he hurt himself again I'll kill em'":woohoo: don't ask about the later:P

if you can't get a clamp in there try a piece of wood to hold the piston, get one that fits close and pump the master till the good piston comes in contact with the wood, then pump out the bad piston

Upon reinstallation i found that the O-ring that goes between the two calipers is non-existant. could this cause more brake issues, like more of the brakes sticking due to air in the lines?

I'm not sure of my nomenclature, but did you check the pins that the calipers slide on when they retreat after brake apllication. Mine were discovered sticking just yesterday. BTW, you might want to check those rubber boots for tearing. ,BK

now that you mention it, those pins did have some crap built up on them, ill take it off and thoroughly clean those. is that what happened to yours?
