The Great Swing Arm Debate: GS1100E -vs- GSX-F750 was created by KZKrayzee
I reallly like the look of mpaquet4's mono swing arm! Can you tell me what the pro's and con's:evil: of a conversion like he did involves and what the differences in performance are? That bike looks fun but I havent heard very much talk about that conversion! Which conversion do you perfer in performance and style?

if your handy with a welder and and think outside the normal you can make anything work and fit. it takes time & money. now the gs swing arm has been done and spelled out really well by other here on the forum.
so do you want a weekend project that takes your basic tools or a winter project that will take some fabbing and thinking out side of your factory frame.

Those are good points. I am looking for some more hands on advice. Has anyone outr there done this conversion? Has anyone rode on a bike with the Katana swing? If so, how was the performance with the mono compared to the dual? For those who have done this conversion, if I do decide to go the Katana route, what trouble's should I lookout for? Thanks for the advice!

i have something in the works right now. in another week or two i will be ready to cut, weld, fab, curse, bust some knuckles and do a different swing arm set up that hasn't been done here. it should go pretty easy. i let to much out of the bag already. keep a eye out cuz i will start soon.

I am curious as to what braking system is best to use with a gs1100 conversion. I am a little uneducated on this topic. Can I only use the gs1100 rear brakes or is keeping the current system an option? What works best?

the simplest way to go in my opinion ( you know about opinions) is to use your stock kz650 rear disc caliper with the gs1000 swing arm. the axle hole is 17mm and you need to drill that out to 20mm (about 3/4") that way you save some $ not switching what you already have. now if you can get a gs rear end complete, swingarm, axle, wheel, brake caliper, etc that would be easy. if you go with a kz1000 rear wheel it matches what you have already and can be found around here pretty easy. i looked into switching out the wheel bearings from my 650 so i could use that rim. well the bearings along cost way more than a kz1000 wheel.
so there is my humble opinion.

So your saying I can use a 82 gs1100e swing, a 82 kz1000 rear wheel and I can stick with my stock brakes? I know where I can find all of these parts! Just want to be sure before I spend my money!

i havent done anything with the front end yet. i have heard that the gixxer front ends work out with the least amount of work into them and a zx front end if you chnage the stem out it works. that is from the threads that i read here have said.
