Rear Springs/Shocks for '78 650 SR D was created by neilh
Hello All....
I have the above bike and I have been looking in the archive for advice on rear springs/shocks for this bike. It's not so much that they are worn, the bike only has 18000 KM on it, but they are adjusted as firm and long (tall) as they can be. I am a fairly big guy and I find that it sags too much for my liking. I have asked the local K dealers the odd question and they seem rather disinterested or totally lost when confronted with something that old that might require research. I understand that the bike should sag no more than a 1/3, is this correct? What should I be asking for and is there after market product that I should be looking at? I haven't been around bikes much since this bike was new and back then it was a current model! It's all very new to me so any advice would be most welcome and appreciated...........

I have been told that shocks from a sportster will fit an(a)? SR. I actually am looking to LOWER mine as I am NOT a big fellow. 5'7" 160 lbs. I did sort thru a few sets of new and used harley shocks on ebay. Not too bad on the prices either. I don't have anything more specific but you might check with some of the KZ supplier links listed here on the site.

If you weigh between 220-250 lbs, then I suggest the 90/140 springs and matching shock from Progressive Suspension, and run them with the lightest preload. If you weigh less than 220 get a lighter spring like a 70/105.
I'm 6' 4" 240 lbs and that worked for me on a 12.5" Progressive shock. I originally had them on a 750 twin, then took them off and installed them on a KZ650.
