re-use bearings one removed? and spacer collar? was created by rickj
When I removed the front wheel- I saw that the bearings would not turn AT ALL by hand- when I removed them they turned freely?!? I was gonna just re-grease them and reassemble everything then I remembered all the pounding I did to get them out! Can I reuse them or should I replace them- no matter how they "feel"- because of all the sideways pounding
Also- the spacer between the bearings has a collar on it- is that collar supposed to slide freely (with flat part facing the center) or does it fit on one end. I'm thinking that mine is just on one end of the spacer and the little bit sticking out jammed the bearings...
Any comments appreciated... I kinda left Jeff at z-1 hanging- first I need bearings then I don't now I might...

Put the old bearings down and slowly back away! NEW BEARINGS! And it's not nice to hang people! Remember the old westerns! :woohoo:

Here is a pic from the parts diagrams at buykawasaki.com that shows how it's supposed to look (and you can buy the bearings from anyplace that sells bearings, they are a standard size).

Steell- yeah- I've been using that site alot since you pointed it out to me. I can't tell from the drawing (or my various manuals)if the collar is supposed to stop at the end of the spacer or slide more on to it...the fact that it is shown as one part makes me wonder if mine is broken- since it comes apart- it is the spacer on the left of the wheel in the diagram.

I have not removed the bearings from a stock KZ750 front wheel (the 79 has Morris Mags), so I don't know for sure, but my guess is that flange should be part of the spacer and not slide, otherwise what would be the purpose of having it?
Any evidence of it being broken, such as a jagged edge on the flange or spacer?
To confuse things even more, check out the spacer in the 78 KZ650SR pic below

It doesn't really look broken- but I used a large socket and pushed the collar on to the spacer aboput 1/4 inch so the collar is ON the spacer- I think I'll be good to go this way.
Thanks
