I am looking to buy some new tires for my 1978 KZ650SR and was wondering what would be a good set of tires. I currently have some tubeless Dunlop 140/90-16 on the rear and a 100/90-19 on the front. Let me know when you get a chance. Thanks Ross

Welcome to KZR. Here's a post from the archives with a Tire Poll: Tires

Give us some pix of your ride as well.

Thanks for the information and the welcome., I will check it out. By the way, I like what you have done with your bike, looks good. Mine only has 13,000 miles on it and is pretty much stock. I just got done doing a all day cleaning on it. I am also going to replace the chain and spockets on it, my back spocket it worn out bad. After that, change the oil and filter and I will be riding in style. Ross

Are you running your tire tubeless on stock 78 KZ650SR wheels? If you are, it's not a good idea, most (if not all) the pre 1980 KZ mag wheels are not designed to run tubeless. Mag wheels designed to run tubeless will say "tubeless" some place on the wheel.

Well...It kinda all depends on what you're looking to do with the bike,e.g. canyon twisties or long freeway rides.

For the long freeway rides i've always put Bridgestone Spitfires on my '78 650 and for around town stuff i've been a fan of the Metzler's Laser tire.

I've gotten 10k plus miles from the Bridgestones!!!

Good Luck!

Erik

I just purchased the bike this last weekend. It only has 13000 miles on it. The tires on the bike are white letter tubeless Dunlop Cruisemax. They are getting alittle thin in the thread depth. I am not sure if these are the OEM tires that came with the bike or the second set. They are not dry rotted and they look good other then the tread depth. I am not sure if they have tubes installed or not untill I tear them down this weekend. I will looked at the rims and see what kind they are then. I have ordered some Dunlog GT501 for it. Thanks for the information everyone.

I was doing some looking around and see they still make the Dunlop Cruisemax tires, so I doubt they are OEM.

I removed my rear tire off my Bike and dismounted the tire. It has the tubeless style wheels on it. Thanks for the information everyone. Now I just need to get it back together so I can ride it.
