pedal shift lever for 1987 kz305 was created by cjkz
Hi everyone....
I just purchased a 1987 kz305 for my wife to learn on. It's a nice user friendly bike. She's been out on it a few times and the last time out the pedal gear shifter snapped off, probably from almost 20 years of use. I am having a tough time finding another. Anyone have any suggestions? Maybe even knowing if another year will work to widen my search?
Thanks for the help in advance.
Jerry

Hi Jerry,
The first thing you will read here after your first post is "Put your hometown and bike in your signature." Second thing is "Post some pictures".
And "Welcome". People are friendly here, you will find. Like I've got a slightly bent shift lever from a '78 KZ that will probably fit your wifes bike. You can have it for postage if you want. Somebody smarter can tell you if it is compatible. Let me know...

maybe look at a shifter off an older dirtbike, they tend to be a little shorter.i used to shorten a lot of 900/1000 shifters till i noticed how short dirtbike shifters were. goodluck, happy wrenching!

Jerry,
I found the shift lever this AM. Its from a 750, about 5&1/2" center to center, maybe too long for a 305? You can have it if you want it?

Thanks for the offer Nevan but it's probably too short. Here is what I'm looking for: I'm not sure if the picture is going to work but the lever is about 7.5" end to end.

That shifter lever was only used on the 87 and 88 305's. You could adapt another shifter as suggested, weld the one you have, or ask this guy if he has a spare for you.
