Forks was created by 77_650B1
I hit somebody last september, and before i buy new forks i thought i'd check here. Do I necessarily need to replace them? My front fender got sandwiched into my crash bar and tire, but the assy only travelled back about 4 inches. I just want to know if I absolutely have to replace them, or if I should check them first. I just dont wanna waste a lot of time checking if they're definitely gone.

I dont have a pic, bikes in another town right now. I dont think it would help though, other than showing what condition the fender is in. I cant tell from just looking that the forks are bent. The fender got pretty mashed up though, its the only visible damage. Thanks.

I think I might have read on here about someone straightening forks, but I could be wrong. try doing a search in here, and the archives

i would think that if they got bent back about 4 inches, i woud imagine that they are bent.
are your fork seals leaking? that some times is the 1st sign of forks bent.
another way to check is to remove the front tire. loosen the bolts that hold the fork legs and spin the fork in the clamps. watching to see if the end( where the wheel mounts ) is wobbling or is it straight.
i know a guy that has a full set up for a '78 650 besides the front brake caliper and hoses. (hint hint--hahmmmmmm
me)if you decide to go that route.
good luck.
