Question on handlebars for a 650 SR was created by AzKZ650
Hi Guys,

I just bought a 78' 650SR a few weeks ago. I love the bike except it has kind of mini ape-hangers on it. They are about 9 inches up and 24 for width, I can't recall how far back they come, but I was hoping someone could give me some stock measurements (I'm assuming the ones I have aren't stock, they don't look like the bikes I've seen in the gallery), or recommend some comfortable after-market bars. Unfortunately I can't post a pic at the moment, They look alot like the handlebars on my brothers old schwinn from around 1979  .

Thanks,

-Brian

Those probably are stock bars. They are usually replaced pretty quickly too.

Do they look something like this? If you can see them in all that mess

I think mine are closer in, when I'm on it my elbows are right up against my ribs. I'll see if I can figure out a way to get some pixs posted over the weekend.
Any recommendations for replacement handlebars ?

Thanks,

-Brian

Maybe drag bars, super bike bars, or clubmans, depends on your riding style ;) how do you like to drive?

You can put on just about any type of bars to your liking.
The pics below are of Blake's bike. When I took it for a ride, it felt as how you described. He has since put on clip ons, in the lower pic.

I do have a set of Clubman MOT-027ST like those pictured in the second of 77KZ650's pics. I took 'em off and put the stock ones back on. I have no need for 'em so if anyone's interested, let me know.

P.S. Attached is a pic of how the PO had them mounted when I bought it.

Take a look at my aviator, I've got the stock bars and they are similar to the stock bars that your SR should come with. If your elbows are into your sides, you have to have aftermarket bars. When you sit on the bike, youe hands are in the position that they would be if holding a coffe cup by the handle , correct ? If so, that would make for one un natural riding position, not to mention your arms hurting or falling asleep. Post up some pics for us. If you want I have a few sets of stock bars. Let me know. Wayne

NONB, I sent you a PM on the bars. Thanks Wayne
