Its gotta be the 1977 model, Moon Dust Silver with red pin stripe 'cause this was the first of the Custom breed. Superbike bars and a professionally sculpted seat for that sleek and smooth look, 810 kit with a 650 head decked and ported. 750 cams, Titanium 750 valves. GPz springs. Smoothbores or Mikuni 28's, velocity stacks, nitrous oxide (hidden in a small bottle where the air box once sat.) Barnett Clutch. Aluminum swingarm. 140-150 rear tire, 13 tooth sprocket to make this nifty 650 jump off the line. 4 into 1 pipe with baffle removed. Air shifter. Dyna electronic ignition. Swing arm brace.
My guess with the bottle is that this stock looking sleeper should get you an honest 90-100 ponies at the rear wheel and surprise a few modern mid-sized crotch rockets. With a talented. lightweight rider and good track conditions MIGHT-I say might...get you within sniffing distance of cracking the high 10's in the quarter.
Hey its my dream...isn't it?
Cheers-Colin Firth-Ontario Canada - Currently building this same bike less the swingarm '(cause I like the look of the stock swingarm) air shifter and it won't be bottle fed...yet!

77 KZ650B w/ Drum Brake (Lighter than Calipers and Disk)
Progressive Springs and heavier weight oil in the stock tubes. Perhaps Cartridge Emulators.
Ohlins Rear shocks 13.5" long to raise the rear ride height.
Ported 650 head w/ Web Cams + Dual Valve Springs. Supposedly good for 14,000 Rpm. Although I don't know if a street motor wold hold together at those revs.
Mikuni 29mm Smoothbores
Wiseco 810Kit
APE Case Studs and nuts.
Knifed edged rods and lightend crank.
DynaS ignition and coils (Maybe Dyna2000 although I don't know how much of an advantage the adjustable ignition curve would give).
Frame bracing across the rear loop above the swing arm and across the front down tubes.
120/90 Rear and 100/90 Front Avon Super Venom tires. Plenty of stick and great handling. I actually love the forgiving handling of the stock bike and wouldn't alter the wheels or swingarm to help maintain it.
Scott's steering damper w/ adapted 900 mount.
Eddie Lawson Replica paint just because it looks so good on these old bikes.
I figure this should be good for 85+ hp and 130 - 140 mph. It would also be a very fun track day / back road bike.

Okay, here's my little fantasy Kz650:
810 kit with a 650 head decked and ported. Dyna electronic ignition.
turbo/supercharge that engine and/or go with the 880 kit and get as many zx suspension parts as possible
07 MDP Rookie of the Year
01 ZX-12R street/drag bike. 8.97 @155.7 pump gas, dot tires, no bars, no power adders. top speed in the 1/4: 161MPH
