I WAS TOLD THAT IF I INSTALLED A LOWERING BLOCK ON MY REAR SHOCKS I WILL HAVE TO BUY A LONGER REAR BRAKE SUPPORT ARM. HAS ANY ONE HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE SHOCK RUBBING THE BRAKE CALIPER? I HAVE THE STOCK SWING ARM AND BRAKES. [1978 KZ1000 A2]:huh:

JUST SAY NO TO THOSE LOWERING BLOCKS,BUY A GOOD SET OF SHORTER SHOCKS OR TRYING ADJUSTING YOUR SHOCKS TO SOFTEST SETTINGB) GOODLUCK,HAPPY WRENCHING!

not true. i have a set of lowering blocks (chromed) on my 77 kz1000. they look great and work great. no other mods needed. just put them on and go.

puts your shocks at weird angle they try and bind rather than compress,it also puts a lot of leverage on the brackets and the bolts that hold them on.:whistle: goodluck,happy wrenching.

I agree with Arobsum.. Have lowering blocks (chromed) and shorter shocks set to softest (except when I'm packing a passenger).. no problems except that I had to raise the fender and reroute the tail light wires.
Why would you have to get a longer brake support rod? your not moving the axel!

I just bolted a set onto my 78 Z1-R this summer and the caliper did hit the shock. It would not work without the longer brake arm. I found a really nice chrome brake arm on eBay so it worked out, but I did need the longer brake arm for sure. Most lowering kits only list the 900 with drum brakes because of the caliper interference. I can't say for the other bikes, but that's my story (and I'm stickin' to it!):P I'm also pretty sure I needed it for my '79 MKII but I can't remember for 100% sure on that one:blink:

OOPS! I didn't realize we were talking caliper's, sorry.. MKII is right, I remember looking at my 77LDT1000 and didn't think that the lowering blocks would work. Next time it comes home I will have to check it out and see about making a longer brake arm.

THANKS FOR THE ADVICE I AM GOING TO TRY SHORTER SHOCKS FIRST. IF IT IS NOT LOW ENOUGH I WILL BUY THE LOWERING BLOCK WITH A LONGER BRAKE SUPPORT ARM.:cheer:

my 80 ltd page 2 of kz1000 gallery drags the header on the 2-3" speedbump in front of advance auto parts here in omaha,done strictly with shocks .i can measure the shocks if you want.:whistle:MEASURED SHOCKS 11 1/4 " WITH NO LOAD.

I read a thread that a kz400 shocks wear used on a kz1000. They measure 11 1/4" bolt hole to bolt hole. I do not think I will have a draging problem sence my rear wheel is 18". What model shock and year did you use? And do you have a 16" rear wheel?

I found a pair of new Harley 883 shocks (11.5") for $40. Lowered rear 2inch and know my feet are flat on the ground. I did have to remove rear finder and make a new support bracket for the licence plate. Also I cut the plastic chain guard so the shocks would not rub on it. It rides smoother than before but it does bottom out on big pot holes.
