I'm giving this a little bump. I believe that my 79 is the first year "always on headlight when ignition is on" was a national thing. But here's my question. On the top of my headlight bucket there is a round black plug as in like there is a hole there that there might have been a switch at one time? In a previous model perhaps?

I have a '78. Had the black plug. Also had "always on" headlight. Pulled the black plug. Used a rat tail file and opened up the hole enough to install a flip switch. Cut ground wire to headlight. Splice in switch.

Problem solved.

How is the Silverwing project coming along, btw?

i've done it before but i had to cut the plug off the switch and splice it directly. some plugs will not interchange with other years/models. the headlight issue in grandfathered in, in most states. the light has to be on only after a certain year. as far as i know, both my kz's are excluded.

On my 650 it was easy. My 77 control got jacked in my wreck and I added the light switch to a control that didn't have it by cutting the blue/white coming out of the on/off switch and connecting it to the out side of the switch then splicing power to the switch off the yellow/orange going into the horn, on/off. The difference in the lighting on the 650's are just in the handlebar control wiring.

I have changed the fluids. Installed new battery. Pulled the carbs and gave them what I thought was a good cleaning but not good enough as it will only run on the left cylinder. My problem has been no time. Did a bunch of stiff to the KZ and I think I have it dialed in.Had lots of rain here with the grass growing like crazy, flooding, water in my basement. My part time gig(s) have been busy too. It'll come along just not as fast as Id like.

Excerpt from Exhaustive Z1 Development History file --

ON THE TOP OF THE SHELL WAS ANOTHER SMALL HOLE, WHICH WAS PLUGGED WITH A RUBBER BUNG. THIS HOLE WAS TO ALLOW THE FITTING OF THE SPEED WARNING LIGHT OF THE Z2-750 MODEL. THE SHELL WAS ALSO USED ON THE H2-750 TRIPLE AND THIS HOLE HOUSED THE HIGH BEAM WARNING LIGHT ON THIS MODEL.

Patton- Where can I find that stuff to read. And what is a speed warning light? Light to indicating you are speeding? Mine would be on ALL the time! Just kidding..So a redline light? Shift light?

The Z2-750 was the Japanese version of the 900Z1.
Am guessing the speed warning light was a government required safety item to turn on or flash at some pre-determined speed; and perhaps applicable to most motor vehicles in Japan's home market.

Exhaustive Development History of Z1 is in the file base. It is a long informative read.

Here's how I get to the article:
Go to Filebase under the KZ Information tab. Click Non-Model Specific. Go to page 5 and click on Exhaustive Development History of Z1.
