Went to Dyna this morning. They took it in the back and sync'd/indexed the modules 180 apart. I took it home and set the 1/4 side statically and did not adjust the modules on the backplate at all. Checked the 2/3 side and I still have the same issue. Dyna assured me they are calibrated 180 out and I should have no problem just setting the 1/4 with the backplate adjustment and leaving it alone. Started the bike and it sounds ok.

If I could only get my hands on another Dyna S I could put this problem to rest. Oh well I guess I'll just ride it for now. It will always be one of those things in the back of my mind though.

Roland,
On my Dyna S ( before it went South ) I just gave up and set it to where it started and ran good. Seems they just hate Kawasakis;)
I'll be looking for another setup I'm sure at some point. And NOT a Dyna. If only my 28 year old Martek didn't "burp & fart" every once in a while. Other than that she runs great!
On the plus side maybe... you can at least take it to them face to face. I have to send it across country and wait.
Just a thought, can you ride your bike to them and show them what the problem is???? Again, just a thought.
As I have no idea just how close you are to them and what kind of customer service they have for walk/ride in people. Just that you say you "picked up" and "went to Dyna this morning".
I might be worth a shot:dry:

Pat are you saying you had this same issue w/ your Dyna S too?

Yeah I've thought of asking them if I could ride down with my timing light and show them the issue. They are only about 20 miles from me. The guys (Raymond and Larry) are pretty cool there. Not sure how they would feel about it. I know they stay pretty busy and I hate to nag.

Anyhow Larry/Dyna did want me to call and let him know how it worked out. So I called back today and told him it's still the same. I mentioned wishing I had another Dyna S to test with. He is going to check with the warranty manager and see what they might do. I'm not holding my breath.

Roland,
Please take the Bike to them and get them to loook at it.
It can not do the Bike any good riding it with 2 and 3 not timed properly and it completly defeats the object of spending all that money. You may well regret not nagging them if you end up with a holed piston or damaged engine .

You are the customer you deserve better service than this, if I was not several thousand miles away I would be sat on there doorstep and would not be going away until they had sorted it.

There customer service is appalling they can not even be bothered to e mail me.

Please take ti to them so we can see what they say the problem is.

regards Steve

YES Roland, I had the same problem. I just figured it was me not knowing what to do or just to damn thick headed to understand it:S That's why I just set it to run and start good and rode it. I NEVER got it right on both.
Ride on down for those who can't be there. ( drum and fife playing in the background )Stand up for the small time riders who can't figure it out, who can't afford $75.00 a hour at the shop ( music picks up ) Fight for the poor guy shaking his head as he spends HOURS sitting in his garage trying to figure it out instead of riding his bike. Only able to dream of smoking Hardlys at the stoplight. Longing for bugs in his teeth. Carry the KZ banner proudly NEVER let it touch the ground!!!!
And if they shoot you... I get first dibs on his bike !!!:P

Hi new to the forum and hope for some help.

I just bought a used Dyna-S off of E-bay for my 1978 KZ-650 SR D1A. I don't think I received all the pieces / parts, and definately no installation guide, so I am needing some pointers. For example, there are four leads off the Dyna unit. I am assuming one is the oil pressure lead, one is the 1-4 coil ground, one is the 2-3 coil ground, and one is the power lead. I guess I need to verify all of this, and get some information as to how the power lead should attach, as I didn't get any jumper wire with my "get-what-you-pay-for" bargain. Also, I noticed some dialog in this thread about "3" and "3a" rotors, which, because I have a number "1" rotor, I am curious as to what to expect with my particular installation. After reading about all of the woes with this particular conversion, I hope upgrading is better ultimately than trying to start this machine after a hard rain has been. Thanks to all, great forum!

KaZooCruiser, Please start a separate thread for your issues. Also, do you have ANY way of identifying the exact Dyna S unit you bought? If so, note its nomenclature in the new thread. Thanks wiredgeorge in Moderator mode...

Hi stever, I called them last week after reading your guys "pep talk" ;) , I kinda got the run around. The gentelman I've been dealing with told me he hasn't had a chance to check with the warranty manager yet. He said he hasn't forgotten about me and will call me after he speaks with him. I reiterated to him that I belive it's a problem with the Dyna S. I asked if they have a old or used unit I could test with. He said no. I even offered to ride my bike over there with my timing light and show them. Again, not much of a response to that.

As of today I have not heard a single thing back from Dyna. I figured I'd give them a week and call again. This time he will probably give me an excuse that he forgot. I'm getting tired of being nice about the issue. I'm ready to threaten to box up their Dyna S and leave it on their doorstep. I'll go back to points or whatever, just not a Dyna.

I hear you buddy!!! I've already started looking for Accel or a OEM unit that will work on my old Kaw. I have yet to hear ANYTHING back from them. If I didn't have my 28 year old MARTEK or points setup I'd be dead in the water for a month during PRIME riding season!!!!
They sure aren't winning any friends are they?? Once biten..

Roland,
That Sucks, Do you not have any consumer laws, in england I would be threatening them with trading standards didyou buy it with a credit card, again in England if you buy something "not fit for purpose" you can get a refund through your credit card.

If you really can not get any where with them I think I would drill and tap the back plate to position the 2/3 module slightly lower on the plate, I dont think this would be to difficult, although it would probably invlidate the fantastic dyna warrenty!!!!!

All of this is a real shame as I thought Dyna had a really good reputation. Every one makes mistakes its how they deal with them tha sorts the men from the boys and dyna are obviously still in nappys!
