Well that did it. Does that mean my rectifier is toast?

That's what it's looking like. So it doesn't draw any current when you pull the rectifier wire, or the blue stator wire, or both?

Then I guess it's time to look for a rectifier. You can probably get one on ebay or you could try to get a modern, one-piece rectifier/regulator. You could also try to make a rectifier for about $10 or $15:

A combo unit would have to connect to the three wires from the alternator (pink, blue, yellow), the output to the battery (white), ground (black), and the switched positive wire to sense the battery voltage (brown). These wires are contained on two different connectors. If you are going to use a combo unit from another model then you will probably have to do a little re-wiring, not much though. If you use a combo unit made specifically for your bike, I would assume it just has two connectors on it, but I really don't know.

You may want to start a new topic asking specifically what you are looking for. Someone else probably already went through this and they could probably give you better deails.

I highly recommend upgrading to the combo unit for your bike if you can afford it. They are plug and play and work nicely. Z1 Enterprises has them for a good price.
