New member here!
have had a search through the files on this subject and it seems almost any other 12v R/R will work.
As my original has died and kwaka part is $$$$$$$$$$$
I've found a unit off a Honda CX500 (part SH232-12) now i've found out so far that the SH232 will work OK.....but not sure what the significance of the -12 on the end is??
Will this work as well or install any different to the SH232 bit??
Thanks (Hopefully)
Glenn

Ditto that! Jeff sells a nice little unit that's plug-and-play for your bike.

In order to tell if it will work, you'll need the wiring diagram from the Honda. Personally, I would stay away from any Honda electrical parts (that goes for their cars too). They fail more than often Homer Simpson.

The other choice I have here is a Kwaka Z1000e unit which also sounds like it should work.
Best price I've found so far for a OEM Kwaka is $330USD
which is more than this little black duck is gonna pay.

Sorf', I think SH 232-12, with the 12 just meaning 12V and the SH standing for Shringular or something!. Guys in UK swear by that rect/reg. They usually get it from a H**da "Superdream". I have asked several questions about it. They just want to say it works well and the earth is green. I was unable to find out if it is a five wire or a six wire (both work).
I have had a lot of luck with secondhand ZXR6 units that I fit with the green or white plug and mount in the regulator position. They are about Aus$80 at wreckers.

Thought I might pop in here and learn some more!
I wanted to ask on that other forum but didn't want to tread on anyones toes. A lot of the info I found was from the UK, I can get one of these for around $45AUD actually and the Z1000e for a couple of bucks more, so it sounds pretty tempting.

Second bit of advice is that the reg/rec you speak of is sort of ubiquitious and sounds like the same unit used on later model KZs from the late 70s onwards. It is made by the company whose name someone mispronouced... shimoogoszonotoat... err never mind. Anyway, it should have about six wires coming out. The three yellow can be hooked up to the three wires coming out of your stator which currently terminate in your plug/junction box on the blue connector. There will also be a white/red, brown and black. I can't recall the specific function; that is, where the wires need to be hooked unless I look at my KZ1000 wiring diagrams which are in manuals in my shop right now. Seems to me that the white/red would be your battery connection, the brown would be the hot main feed and the black a ground connected to your starter solenoid but I could very well be wrong so check a KZ1000 wiring diagram for any late 70s model with a consolidated regulator/rectifier. I would also recommend you don't hide the thing when you mount it... get it in some airflow as heat is what kills them. Also, if you buy used, there is a troubleshooting procedure in the KZ1000 manual that is helpful but the reg/rec needs to be mostly wired into the bike to do the checking I think... resistance checks and voltage checks and the like...

Sounds like I'll go down this path, as there all made in same place, I'm guessing one off a Hoonda can't be that bad.
When you say don't hide it, I'm assuming the under battery box or standard rectifier possies won't be a problem?

Loudhvx recommended I installed a 15V inline fuse on the brown wire to protect the circuits in case something went wrong. I just checked the model# on it it's SH530-12K, I only paid 30 bucks for it. Good luck...
