black wire from rectifier was created by 13thlevel
found the black wire from the rectifier not connected. does this connect to the battery ground or to the frame or does it matter. would this create major problems if not connected? my battery had completely boiled off all of it's electrolyte and the bike has fried 4 coils before i noticed this. where does the wire connect? -thanks
could the previous owner have done this to hide something else wrong?

Yes...it connects to Your battery...according to the diagram though,it connects to the positive side.I've eliminated all the original components on my bike,so I can't look at Mine to be sure.
Looking at that diagram again,if You're talking about the black/yellow wire, then that one does connect to the negative side of the battery.

My aftermarket combo has 7 wires in total...2 go to the neg side, and 2 to the pos side. The other 3 go to the dynamo(alternator).
I was told that it was a "Heavy-duty" unit, hence the doubled-up connections to the battery.

If the wire is brown, but dirty, it may appear black. The brown wire gets switched 12v from the ignition switch.
The black/yellow wire goes to negative on the battery (as was mentioned).
If the brown wire or black/yellow wire is left unconnected on the regulator (not rectifier), it will overcharge and burn out your electrical system.
