i dont know what caused this, but it is why my bike has been extreamly hard to start and has had shitty performence. I put a set of new dyna wires on and now it runs great. What should i use to clean the black carbon out of the coils?

ok update: went out to start it with a charged battery, and nothing, although it made a cough but died. Im going to use some electrical cleaner to get the carbon in the coils. Then im going to cut down the wires a bit , because the previous owner of the 650, decided that using anti seze on the plug wires was a good idea.  . I dont know some people are just special i guess? I also have a question were should the metal sleaves that hold the wires in the coils be on the wires?, and should there be any plug wire past the end of the metal sleave? And should the core of the wre be showing or should i cut it flat?? Thanks

What brand coils are you using? You didn't mention that, just that you have dyna wires. If you have dyna coils the wires just screw onto a threaded stud inside the coil tower. To clean the towers out us some spray electrical clean for any hardware or auto store, just keep you face away for it when you spray, I've heard that it sort of stings the eyes,,,

Am wondering if it might be dielectric grease (instead of anti-seize) in the plug-wire to coil connection to help avoid moisture intrusion and corrosion.

Just a wild guess, but also wondering if maybe the plug wires are carbon core resistor style (instead of wire core style) with the carbon core somehow breaking down
(maybe from dielectric grease?) and causing the carbon residue in the coils.

Probably shouldn't matter, but I use wire core Dyna plug wires with Dyna coils and dielectric grease, and don't get any carbon residue in the area where plug wires insert into the coils.

Good Luck! :)

ok another update, The power wire going to the 2 and 3 coil was so loose it just pulled out of the connector, so i took a pair of pliers and bent down the connector a tad and put the wire back in, and this time it did't pull out. I fired the bike up, it actually started in less than 1 revolution, it seemed like i just touched the starter button. Took it for a ride and she road like a brand new bike. Went back home and left it sit for 5 or 6 hours came back out and she fired right back up........pretty cool huh?????
