crapped out regulator in Nova Scotia was created by Guy Incognito
Hey guys, I have a 1976 kz 400 and my regulator just crapped out. My parts bike's regulator works but the wiring is all rotten. So I was wondering if there was anyone in NS or close by that would have one off their parts bike they may sell to me!
Hope the summer riding is good,
S

Your regulator is the same as a 1977 KZ650. This place sells regulators for that bike. It doesn't list the KZ400, but that's just because he doesn't have a complete compatibility chart.

EDIT: looks like he lists the KZ400 now.
You need the regulator with three wires (brown, green, black/yellow).

Your regulater may still have some life left in it. I have the '77 KZ650-B1 regulator and using my Clymer's manual I was able to adjust it with good results. It was a question of cleaning the contacts and getting the gap between the contacts properly gapped.
Give it a try... you probably have nothing to loose at this point and you could save a few $$.
Best of success.
