tach signal was created by kz1000g megasquirting
Hi guys, new member trying to set up megasquirt on a 1000 g model. Megasquirt picks up the rpm signal from the negative lead on 1 coil, the 1000g has 2 coils. Aside from getting a dyna 2000 with a 2ppr tach output, is there a lead off the stock ignitor that would provide the same output as the negative leads on the 1000g.

I haven't used a Megasquirt but I have used a DTA ECU and that, if I remember rightly, took the rpm signal from the pickup coil(s) via a 36-1 toothed wheel on the crank. If you don't get an answer here (Steell?) the Megasquirt forums would probably be better placed to help you.

The stock ignitor won't give you summation signal of the two coil pulses.
You need an adapter to convert the two coil signals into one signal. You only need three components to make one.
This is for the stock electronic ignition. It won't work for points or Dyna S.

Each coil fires every revolution, so you can use either coil. MegaSquirt just wants to know when the crank has revolved one time.
MegaSquirt has two injector channels, so you could put 1 & 3 on one bank, and 2 & 4 on the other, and set it up as two (or four) squirts alternating. that's an example as I have a mental block on the firing order at the moment
Keep in mind that the KZ ignition is crank triggered, not cam, so there are two ignition triggers per revolution (both coils).

I was able to cheat things and get it running well saying that the engine was a 2cyl, sim. injection, 4 injectors. It was a wow, this hasn't run in 15 years event. Now it's time to set things up right and tune.
