Need power for a shift light

I am installing a shift light on my 1978 KZ1000 LTD and need to put power to it. I have an open dark brown wire in the main harness and also in the head light, is that a good place to hook in for power and is it turned on with the ignition?

brown is a switched hot lead
white is always hot
use a fuse and double check with a test light first
