Used Dyna III worth $50.00? UPDATE!! was created by bkitchen
I have found a guy who has a Dyna III system off a running bike for $50.00. Is this a good deal and is there anything I should look for?

They were in the $150 range when they were last available. At least that's what I paid.
Personally, I think the design of the III is better than the Dyna-S. It has a big aluminum case for heat dissipation and the control box is away from engine vibration. The tradeoff is that you have to find a place to mount the big box and there is more wiring to deal with.
As far as possible damage to look for:
Look at the pickup assembly very closely for cracks in the circuit board.
Also look for physical scuff marks for where the rotor may have collided with the pickups (usually happens when the bike gets dropped hard on the right side).
As usual, look for any signs of burnt wiring.
It should be a pretty hearty system. The ignition coils must be 3-ohm or higher (in case you are swapping to another bike).

I'm sticking with the stock coils for now, they seem to be doing fine. Thanks for the Info.

My experiance with Dyna III's has been when they die there is no way to tell becase the "goods" are sealed in epoxy. However $50 is not bad.

Finally got a chance to get it on and it FIRED RIGHT UP! Got it timed and went for a short ride today. Finally got to 55 degrees too. Seemed to idle better, run smoother at lower RPM's, and pull harder all the way through.

If pro is opposite of con, then what is the opposite of progress?
