I have an 81 GPz 1100 and have removed the Fuel Injection. In doing so, the ignition is disabled. I need some help determining which direction to go to get this thing running. I have BS34's ready to go.

Thanks

I don't understand your bike much. Why is the ignition disabled? Was it part of the FI electronics? If this is the case, you might need to find a Dyna ignition... the type used will depend on what type of ignition advance you will need to use, I guess. If you can use an old style mechanical advance, you can get away with a Dyna S but otherwise might need one of the more fancy Dyna ignitions that don't use a mechanical advance... I think they may have vacuum connected? www.z1enterprises.com can tell you if you ask them I suspect.

The bike had spark before I uninstalled the air box.
So, I was really wondering if I could by-pass the FI and amke the ignition active again. But if I need to completely retool, thats ok

Turpehar, I have an 82 GPz 1100 where the FI has been removed too and is also running BS34s and stock ignition. Problem is I didn´t do it myself, was already done when I bought the bike, so I can´t really tell what´s involved, but I can snap some pics in the next couple of days if you want to (not at home right now). Do you have any pics yourself of what you want to know?

No, it's just integrated into the FI so the injection brain gets an RPM signal, etc. But it uses the standard pick-up and ignitor. Turp, you just removed too many wires. All you had to do was keep the ignition hooked up and clip one wire going to the brain. The problem is that to find that wire and separate the ignition wires fromthe FI wires you needed to unwrap the wiring harness, and trace wires, not just yank the harness out. Get a manual that has the wiring diagram for the carburated J motor (KZ1100A) and find the pieces you have to put back. Trust me, it'll work. Just take one wire at a time, and it'll all be there.

I actually haven't remoed anything. I have unplugged all things FI. The box is still under the rear fender and all wires attached. I'll check into what your talking about. The shop manual I have has KZ-J's in it so I should be able to the diagrams.

Any other assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I've torn my bike down to the frame and am wiring from the ground up, so I'm in a different situation, but I do have my wiring harness laying on the table in front of me. (sorry, no pics, my wife has misplaced the digital camera!:S )
I have a suggestion:
grab your wiring harness at the box plug end, and go back to where you have a four-way intersection of tape. One of those will take you to a flat three-terminal connector. Unplug this. Now try.

BTW, turpehar (what does THAT mean?! )
It is both helpful and friendly to add something peersonal to your signature. Go to the upper right of this page and click on (profile), then on the (edit) dropdown menu click on (update your profile), then on the (forum setting) tab you can add info about where you are and what bike(s) you have.
I googled turpehar, and found a Harold in Farmer City, IL, with a CJ-5, an F-250, and a 'Stang. That you?;)
