You might want to check the year and model of that bike to be certain of what it is before you go lookin' for a wire harness.
The KZ650D (SR) model was only available in '78 and '79, and the only KZ650 offered in '81 was the KZ650H (CSR) model.
Main harness part#s:
'78 KZ650-D1/D1A (SR) = 26001-1027
'79 KZ650-D2 (SR) = 26001-1061
'81 KZ650-H1 (CSR) = 26001-1198
'82 KZ650-H2 (CSR) = 26001-1301
'83 KZ650-H3 (CSR) = 26001-1420
The cross-reference list shows the above numbers as fitting these bikes exactely as listed and no other KZ's, so finding one could prove to be a chore. :S
Once you figure out exactely what year and model 650 it is, it should make searching for one slightly easier.
Although it doesn't state what model (B, C, or D), there's a harness listed on eBay right now for a '79 KZ650:
1979 KZ-650 COMPLETE WIRE HARNESS KAWASAKI .
You could always click the "Ask seller a question" link in the auction listing and ask him/her what model it's from.
It even comes with extras, and at the current price ($6.00 + shipping) is a steal! :woohoo:

I will consult my VIN books one more time tonight, the bike is the original engine and frame , I will get the exact engine and VIN number too post, pulling my hare out on this one, bike is electric start only, no kick and has pick-up coils instead of points, dual disk front brakes and single disk rear, has the odd shaped master cylinder resevoir on the front brakes, and is the original dark red in color, thanks for all the help guy's and sorry about the CAPS on the last post.

Hey Retro, would there be another model/year listed in that cross reference for an 82 KZ550A3? Having trouble finding a Wiring harness specific to it.. Also, it seems the a3 was the only model that didnt have self canceling turn signals.. Any reason why? Thanks.

Unfortunately the '82 KZ550-A3 main harness (part# 26001-1289) shows as only fitting that year and model of bike.
In fact, all years of the KZ550 "A" model appear to have diff part#'s for the main harness:
'80 KZ550-A1 = 26001-1126
'81 KZ550-A2 = 26001-1230
'84 KZ550-A4 = 26001-1460
No clue as to what the differences are, but it could be as simple as a particular wire lead being longer/shorter between years, or having an extra/missing wire lead.
About the best I can suggest is checking with a tech at Kawi in Irvine, CA to see if they can shed a little light on the differences.
I personally knew the head tech that worked there a few years back and he'd always been very helpful, but he's moved on to a diff (ie: more $$$) position and I have no clue as to who's head-tech now. So I have no clue as to their current pool of expertise in the tech area.

Thanks alot for the help, everything i looked at was telling me nothing else would fit, but I was in denial.. till now.. Ouch..
I can see the differences, about the only thing that would connect is the brake light switch and one only connector. The difference is the self canceling turn signals, which uses an extra part, (turn signal control unit) in addition to the reserve lighting device. And just about evrything is wired thru it. Ignition doesnt match up, controls dont match up.. Argggh
Well, again, I have a harness for a 81 KZ550 I believe c2 if anyone needs it.

after much studious deducing I have determined the bike too be a 1981 kz650 D4 but I can make any wiring harness work as long as it is a harness for a bike with pick-up coils, stripping the bike to make a cafe racer so a lot of the leads won't even be used, In need of a set of pick-up coils as well, any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
